The theme is "EcoEduTech: Potential of AI in Reshaping Teachings and Learning to Support Sustainable Education. Experiences and Challenges in European and Asian Countries".
During the week-long on-site program in Yogyakarta, participants will have ample opportunities to discuss their ongoing or future PhD research with fellow doctoral students and senior experts from relevant scientific fields. This collaborative environment within the "Education & Technology" network will be highly beneficial. Attendees will participate in various fascinating courses and lectures, some closely related to their areas of study and others entirely new. It will be a chance to learn a wealth of new information, revisit nearly forgotten concepts, and develop an interest in unfamiliar topics. The venue will be alive with discussions and interdisciplinary exchanges, prompting many participants to reconsider their usual subjects from fresh perspectives. There will be open and free-flowing discussions among students, lecturers, and all other participants, leveraging the fact that everyone has areas of inexperience and expertise. Additionally, the program includes educational tours in the Kaliurang area in the northern part of Yogyakarta.
International Faculty
This year's event will feature esteemed faculty members from France, Norway, Austria, Germany, Indonesia, Malaysia and Brazil, who will come together for dynamic interdisciplinary exchanges on the latest scientific advancements in Educational Sciences and Technology. This year's Summer School theme aims to explore how artificial intelligence (AI) can revolutionize teaching and learning to promote sustainable education. This comprehensive exploration will delve into AI's transformative potential, examining its promise and the challenges it faces through the lens of experiences from European and Asian countries.
Blended Setting
The 2024 Summer School will be held in a blended format. There will be an initial Online Phase (16th September to 4th October 2024) where participants will interact on the central theme of the Summer School and get in contact with each other. This initial phase will be followed by an On-site Phase at the Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, from 7th to 11th October 2023. The goal is to bring together young researchers and broaden the participant's understanding of the rapid growth of hybrid digital forms of engagement in a digitally supported international culture of scientific exchange. After the on-site phase, there will be an additional follow-up online phase (14th to 18th October 2024) to summarise the overall activities during summer school.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible, you must be a PhD student or early-career researcher (post-doc) associated with institutions within the network. Additionally, Master-level students at the advanced stage of their master's studies contemplating the pursuit of a PhD may meet the eligibility criteria. Interested students may contact faculty supervisors to assess whether the abstract submitted suits the themes.
Expected Outcome of the Summer School:
Participants will be asked to present a brief overview of their research in the form of an A4-sized Poster Session. Each participant will have 8 minutes for their presentation, including a Q&A session. Additionally, participants are expected to prepare their research posters according to the provided guidelines. References for poster creation and templates can be accessed through the following link: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1po5QhIJAAIHZ3sGh1zfVcUw2pBDGaeqx?usp=drive_link. Posters can be printed in their respective countries, or the committee can assist in printing the posters. The posters will be displayed simultaneously during the poster session, which will take place on the fourth day of the event. Participants who wish to have their posters printed in Indonesia can send their poster files to the email didik_hr@uny.ac.id. This session will provide participants with a valuable opportunity to receive constructive feedback from peers and experts in the field.
The PhD Summer School aims to assist participants with specific projects, datasets, and ideas that contribute to their dissertation work or align with their research interests. Participants are encouraged to actively engage with other doctoral candidates and researchers within their field to enhance their research network. They will also gain insights into the latest developments in the field and, upon full participation, will be awarded 3 ECTS credits.
Application
Once accepted into the Summer School, participants will be granted access to the Summer School web platform to find all necessary preparatory materials. All participants are expected to engage with these materials and complete all tasks and assignments during the ONLINE phase before the start of the Summer School. This preparation is crucial for active and dynamic discussions and exchanges during the event. Participants are encouraged to consult with their local supervisor for any questions regarding time commitment, workload, or involvement in the online phase.
